Books for Cinephile Bookworms

Did you get book vouchers for Christmas? Or maybe you’d just like to treat yourself to a book, Well, I’ve found some that you might be interested in. Now, I haven’t read any of these books yet but they are on my ‘to read’ list. So here we are, five film related books that I think sound interesting and all are all available via Amazon.

1. As You Wish by Cary Elwes

as you wishI love The Princess Bride, who does’t? So this book is right up my street. When I bought the special edition of the film I was treated to some great extras including a behind the scenes style video filmed by Elwes.
I know quite a bit about the making of the film but I’m sure there are some interesting stories in this book.

2. On Set with John Carpenter

John CarpeterThis looks like a must have for all Carpenter fans. The photographs are taken by Kim Gottlieb Walker Carpenter’s unit photographer who was first hired for Halloween but went on to shoot stills on the sets of some of Carpenter’s most well known films such as Halloween, The Fog and Escape from New York.

3. Infographic Guide To The Movies

InfographicI love infographics, they’re just fun and this looks great. You can flip through a couple of pages on Amazon and it looks pretty good.

4. Altman by Kathryn Altman

AltmanRobert Altman is a highly regarded director and this book put together by his wife is like a visual history of his work. Martin Scorsese and other Hollywood alumni add their own touches to the book which covers Altman’s films and has lots of unseen content.

5. ‘Have You Seen…?’: a Personal Introduction to 1,000 Films including masterpieces, oddities and guilty pleasures (with just a few disasters) by David Thomson

Have you seenDavid Thomson, a British film critic who lives in America, writes about 1,000 books and by all accounts it’s a hoot! It has some great reviews on Amazon and with a title like that, how could I ignore it?
While I don’t really subscribe to the idea of ‘guilty pleasures’ I do enjoy hearing about the things other people feel guilty for liking.

So there you are, five books that I think sound pretty good. Have you read a good film related book recently? I’m currently reading Ayoade on Ayoade by the brilliant Richard Ayoade, it’s excellent.
